The brief for this project was very simple: to provide a flexible studio space for an artist with excellent, controllable natural light on a modest budget. On certain occasions the studio would transform in a miniature gallery, playing host to family and friends or serve as an extension of the family's house sited on the same site.
The studio uses minimal construction techniques with the majority of its components; the polished concrete shell and a small utility and storage volume, all manufactured off-site, the aim was to minimise cost and construction time. The inserted, coloured volume houses all of the necessary services and supplies the artist requires in the space and provides an active counterpart to the otherwise neutral light receiving surfaces of the interior.
